Hand-built ceramic coils, oxide, glaze, underglaze, gold luster.

2020 exposed a long list of vulnerabilities in our society: a worldwide pandemic, global environmental disasters, and deep ideological fractures. The experience of creating this sculpture has revealed my own lack of control over life and forced me to reconsider how do we deal with what is broken? Do we toss it out completely or do we honor the broken as we struggle to fix it? I chose the latter, fixing and enhancing the vulnerable clay form, as each new disaster pushed me to change my process and intention.
